Top 5 NFL Quarterback Rankings for 2025

NFL

Written by Tom Craft

With the countdown to kickoff for the 2025 NFL season nearly over and the long offseason finally winding down, it’s time to shift our focus back to the field. Let’s take a look at the top 5 quarterbacks heading into 2025 NFL season.

Number 1- Patrick Mahomes

Despite falling short of a historic three peat attempt in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles and recording one of the single worst performances of his career, Patrick Mahomes still remains the standard for Quarterback excellence of this generation. He already has a resume of a first ball hall of famer and he has been to 5 Super Bowls in 8 years as a starter with 3 rings and 3 Super Bowl MVPS as well as 2 regular season MVPs.

He has had two down years in the regular season not recording over 30 passing touchdowns since his 2022 MVP season where he had 41, however with an array of weapons heading in to 2025 and a bolstering of the Chiefs offensive line in free agency and the draft, Mahomes is well set for a bounce back year in 2025, there is still not QB who you would take ahead of Patrick Mahomes in clutch situations when the game in on the line, therefore he still remains the number 1 QB in the NFL.

Number 2- Josh Allen

Josh Allen’s ascendency from this first couple of years in the league to the dominant MVP winning QB he has developed into is nothing short of remarkable. His early struggles with turnovers seems to be a thing the past only throwing 6 interceptions in 2024, compared to 18 in 2023. He is still a gun slinger with a cannon of arm and the talent to rival Mahomes.

He is number 2 on this list due to what he has been able to do with a fairly average supporting cast around him, James Cook had a breakout year in 2024, rushing for over a 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns but Allen’s leading receiver in 2024 was khalil Shakir with just 821 yards, Allen’s ability to elevate his play and lead his team in clutch situations despite this are what places him second on this list. The one question still remains can Josh Allen beat the Chiefs in the playoffs and a hoist a lombardi trophy in 2025.

Number 3- Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson has already cemented himself as one of the greatest regular season QB’s of all time. His regular season number’s are incredible and he added to that resume with arguably his best season to date in 2024. Not only did he throwing 41 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions, he also ran for over 900 yards and 4 touchdowns. Silencing the narrative that he cannot be a consistent pocket passer.

He should have won MVP in 2024 for his incredible year, despite this his and Ravens woes at playoff time continued with a divisional round loss to the Bills, underlying his inability to elevate the Ravens to a Super Bowl appearance in his tenure. Despite this Lamar Jackson is still a 2 time MVP winner and is still only 28 years old. There is no one who plays the QB position with such versatility as Lamar Jackson. The Ravens are once again all in 2025 for that elusive trip the super Bowl.

Number 4- Joe Burrow

It is very tough to put Joe Burrow this low with his talent unquestioned, however with the Bengals disaster of a season in 2024, He still needs to prove that he can overcame the Bengals deficiencies especially on defence and take them once again on a deep playoff run. Burrow has a top 2 receiver in superstar Ja’marr Chase and an incredible tandem WR2 in Tee Higgins. He will hope the Bengals can lock down star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to bolster a once again abysmal defence in 2025.

He had the best season of his career in 2024 leading the leading the league touchdown passes with 43 and showcasing his incredible talent and more importantly being able to stay healthy for a full season having had his past two campaigns cut short due to injury. Here is hoping for a renewal of the Chiefs vs Bengals rivalry next January, the question is will Burrow be able to guide the Bengals to another post season birth only time will tell.

Number 5- Jalen Hurts

This may be a controversial ranking with Jalen hurts being quite the polarizing figure. Whoever you cannot question his ability to perform on the biggest stage, He has been the best Quarterback in 2 separate super Bowls losing the first before dominating the second. He has a Super bowl MVP for his incredible performance in Super Bowl LIX and deserves his flowers for his ability to elevate his game in the clutch. Arguments are always made that he has a stellar supporting cast on both offense and defence which are warranted however, he can’t help the situation he is in and his consistency of his career so far to get the Eagles to the playoffs every year as a starter and to multiple super Bowl appearances ahead of players with more talent are what cement him as a top 5 QB going into 2025.
